I don't believe any active participant will dispute that AKC Retriever Field trials are the
DIVISION 1 of retriever competition as practiced in North America. There are plenty of
qualified Owner Handlers successfully tested by competition available to judge trials. This
is based on 1 assignment for each place received with a dog as an Owner Handler. Trial
giving clubs that invite judges based on 1 to 1 (see FACTOIDS for explanation) who are
actively & successfully involved in AKC Retriever Field trial competition are giving
contestants a fair opportunity
I have collected a large amount of information with considerably more to collect. If error free, wonderful,
or if not, please submit corrections with factual backup. All data complete back through 1965.
NOTE: If a handler is in the category of Unidentified, Designated or Owners with different
Surnames they receive no handler credit. If you have titled a dog as an Owner Handler,
subsequent places in the Derby as an Owner Handler will be shown as your last placing.
ADDED: 3-21-2007
The purpose of this page is to present information to competitors. There will be new
notations behind some judges names: the 1st - New to database will be for 1 trial, the 2nd -
Co-Owner - is a temporary response to giving some credit for Co-Ownership situations. I
don't have the answer for dealing with this situation in the future. I am open to any & all
suggestions on handling this situation. There are numerous & varied Co-Owner situations
& there are questions about their compliance in some instances with the intent of the
authors of the "Standing Recommendation" on "AMATEUR".
ADDED: 5-30-2007
CO-OWNER -- Beginning with the July 2007 postings an individuals record as an Owner
Handler will be posted. If they have also Co-Owned successful dogs with other individuals
that will be posted under their individual record as CO OWNER (no other stats will be
posted). If they have no record as an individual owner, Co Owner will be posted directly
after their name & only their judging stats will be posted.
ADDED - 1-11-2009
Multi Dog Owner/Handler - those handler who routinely enter 3 or more AA dogs will have
their placings shown as (*) as it is evident that their record is not indicative of similar
acquired knowledge as those who campaign with 1 possibly 2 dogs max.
Multi Dog Co Owner - those handlers who have co-owned a majority of the dogs they have
campaigned but never less than 3 total will be identified by #.

I'm taking a Sabbatical as I am running for public office & it is taking a lot of time .
The election is Nov 3RD & after that I will gear up again. I am going to revamp the site
with the aid of someone computer savvy & would appreciate any & all suggestions for making
it more user friendly. e-mail ftrjuj@tx3.net or 360-829-5249 - snail mail PO Box 2080,
Buckley, WA 98321 I am thinking of a blog as an added feature for discussion of trials &
setups from the perspective of a competitor. Will have to establish ground rules!!!
I find it humorous to say the least when you read the various postings & LTTE's
that bemoan the inability to get people to judge. When you read that recognize
that person is telling you they are inexperienced & unknowledgeable about the
traditions of the sport & it's participants. I find it obviously interesting that they
then turn around & are able to find in many cases obviously unqualified people to
"man the book".
We put too much effort into the training of these dogs to accept any thing other
than someone who is "Competent & impartial" in the evaluation of these
wonderful animals, their unique talents & those who work so diligently to train
them.
You folks have a wonderful summer & fall, enjoy the dogs as we all do, & with my
goal to get back sometime next year with regular postings.
